The Chawel started back in 2002. After 1 year of lifeguarding at the beaches, where there isn't always easy access to changing rooms, the wheels started turning trying to find an easier way for people to change less awkwardly on the beach in public. Seeing families with kids, having to hold the towel around them so they can change seemed tiring. Tourists and locals by themselves at the beach changing with 1 hand holding their towels around them looked awkward, and amusing.
The Chawel makes changing in public easier and faster! Soon you will forget the old ways of the "1 armed, towel holding change", and the "can you hold the towel around me" change. This is perfect for those who travel solo on the planes or at the breaches. For families with kids, whether they be soaking wet, covered in sand, or shivering from a cool breeze. Athletes such as swimmers, surfers, scuba-divers and anyone else who spends time on a plane, beach or around water. Read Comments
The name CHAWEL took years to come up with, believe it or not. One day it just came to me. It seems simple enough now.
Chawel comes from the main use, where the idea initially came from. CHANGE TOWEL!
Pronounced like towel, but wil a "CH" like in Change. CHA
Besides the use as a TOWEL, and the main use as a CHANGING ROOM, the uses and ideas kept coming. With the chilly nights and breezy days, the SLEEPING BAG/BLANKET use was adapted to the Chawel. Having the option to slip into your Chawel to cut the breeze and stay warm, you will stay comfortable at the beach, and your stay, longer.
Combining the years of traveling all over the world. From some of the worlds best beaches, to unexpected nights in airports from missed connrections. The Chawel took on another use. Using it as a SLEEPING BAG again in the main check-in area of the Toronto airport. It was a great few hours sleep, with out the usual chill.
After a trip to Brazil in 2005. The idea of a HIDDEN POCKET was adapted. After watching bags get snatched from unsuspecting people at the beach, the need for a pocket seemed to fit. Your towel wont get pulled out from under you while you are laying on it, whether it be awake or in a suntanning snooze.
The NECK PILLOW use was a big hit on flights. I could never sleep on airplanes. It didn't matter how many times i has seen the movie playing. I would still watch it because I couldn't sleep sitting up right. Since not everyone gets the window seat to rest your head against, sleeping upright isn't possible for most. Avoid the annoying, yet entertaining, head bobs and sudden twitches of trying to sleep. When i tried the Chawel as a pillow, and slipped the Chawel through the elastic, it worked like a charm. I was asleep before the flight even took off.
